How Much Does a Tummy Tuck Cost? (2026)

Cost is the first question almost everyone asks — and the honest answer is "it depends." We track the self-pay prices that 11,866 US plastic surgery practices list or that patients report, and across the 248 practices that publish a figure the typical estimated tummy tuck runs $8,000. Below: what a tummy tuck typically costs, how estimates vary by state, and how to find a board-certified surgeon near you.

Please read: these are estimates, not quotes. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is major surgery, and its price varies widely with the surgeon's training, the technique (mini vs. full vs. extended vs. 360), anesthesia, the surgical facility, and your individual case. The figures on this page are self-pay estimates — practice-listed and patient-reported ranges, never a guaranteed price. Always request a personal quote in a consultation, and verify a surgeon's board certification directly with the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) at abplasticsurgery.org. Nothing here is medical advice — talk to a surgeon about your candidacy, risks, and recovery.

What does a tummy tuck typically cost?

Among the 248 practices with a listed or reported figure, here's how the estimated self-pay prices fall. Most tummy tucks land in the mid four-to-five-figure range once anesthesia and facility fees are included — but your quote could sit anywhere in (or outside) these bands, so treat them as a map, not a menu.

Under $8,00012148.8%
$8,000–$12,0006024.2%
$12,000–$18,0004417.7%

Figures are estimates that vary by surgeon, technique, anesthesia, and facility. A published price often covers the surgeon's fee only — ask what's included, and get a written quote.

Tummy Tuck Cost Index: estimated price by state

The self-pay estimate isn't the same everywhere. Across the states where enough practices publish a figure (at least 3), the median estimated tummy tuck ranges from about $3,000 to $16,000 — Massachusetts sits highest and Oklahoma lowest among states with enough data. This table is thin on purpose: surgeons rarely post a number, so we only rank a state once we have several. Every figure is an estimate — your quote depends on your surgeon and your case.

Start with a board-certified surgeon

Whatever the price, the surgeon matters more. "Cosmetic surgeon" is not a protected title — board-certified plastic surgeon is the recognized standard, meaning certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), the gold standard for training in abdominoplasty and body contouring. Of the practices in our directory, at least 6,230 publish or evidence board certification. Before you weigh any quote, verify certification yourself at abplasticsurgery.org, and ask the surgeon about your candidacy, the risks, and recovery. See the board-certified map for the state-by-state picture, or browse board-certified surgeons directly.

Which states have the most plastic surgeons per capita?

Nationally there are about 34.9 tummy-tuck surgeons per million residents in the directory. Per resident, Connecticut leads at 66.7 per million — 245 practices for 3.7 million people, with New Jersey (66.3) and North Dakota (51.5) close behind. Where surgeons are thin on the ground, expect a longer drive and fewer quotes to compare. At the other end, Hawaii has just 17.3 per million.

By raw count the big states lead — California has 1,552, Florida has 983, Texas has 825 — but per resident, Connecticut is where a board-certified surgeon is easiest to find nearby. Full table: plastic-surgeons-per-capita.csv.

Inside the practices

Of the 11,866 practices in the directory, 11,660 are plastic surgery / cosmetic surgery practices that perform tummy tucks — the rest are closely related body-contouring practices whose abdominoplasty work earns them a place here. We leave out med-spas that don't perform surgery and unrelated clinics. From our review and website mining so far (these counts are floors — they require evidence, and enrichment is ongoing):

This page's cost index is downloadable: tummy-tuck-cost-index.csv.

Methodology: practice counts from our continuously maintained national directory (public business listings + practice websites, filtered to practices that perform tummy tucks — no non-surgical med-spas or unrelated clinics); price figures are self-pay estimates a practice lists or that patients report, kept only within a $3,000–$25,000 window and only ranked at state level once at least 3 practices publish a number; board-certification counts are floors mined from practice sites and reviews and should always be verified at ABPS; population = US Census 2024 estimates. Per-capita = surgeons ÷ state population × 1,000,000. Nothing here is medical advice — tummy tuck is major surgery; consult a board-certified surgeon about your candidacy, risks, and recovery.
